General Flooring Care

  • Keep cleaning supplies like a broom near high-traffic doors. If people or pets might track in dirt or grass, you’ll want to clean up any spills as soon you can.
  • Hosting a spring soiree? After guests leave, do a quick sweep or vacuum for dirt or food left underfoot.
  • Preserve high-traffic areas throughout your home with statement rugs and floor mats. Consider additional rugs—for both protection and style—during your next gathering.

Hardwood Flooring Maintenance

  • Always remove surface dirt and debris with a dry mop of vacuum before using wet products.
  • Before you pull out any sponges or mops, know how the wood is sealed. Use a damp (not soaking) mop, using the manufacturer-recommended cleaning product or products.
  • Avoid scratched by placing protective pads under furniture legs, and rugs under rolling furniture.

Carpeting Maintenance

  • Vacuum your carpets regularly. Weekly vacuuming may work in some areas, but high-traffic areas or homes with pets may need it daily.
  • Working from the same direction can create long term carpet patterns and prevent you from picking up dirt, try vacuuming from different angles to gain effectiveness.
  • Dirt is easier to remove than mud, so let mud dry. Scrape at the dried mud with a spoon to loosen it up, and then vacuum the dirt.
