Spring Cleaning: Taking Care of Your Carpet

Spring is finally here and it’s time to deep clean a winter’s worth of dirt, grime, salt, and worse from your carpet. The easiest way, of course, is to find a reputable cleaning company to come to your home and take care of the work for you. However, if you are more of a DIY person, there are a number of great rentable machines on the market so you can clean the carpet yourself.

A few things to Remember when cleaning your carpet:

  • Vacuum carpets really well first. You wouldn’t shower with your clothes on – so make sure dirt and debris is picked up before you shampoo.
  • Practice using the cleaner and cleaning solution in a hidden area first. This will ensure you can operate the machine and the solution won’t discolor your carpet.
  • Save time by moving furniture only slightly to clean underneath. Use wax paper under furniture legs to protect them from getting wet.
  • Finally, open your windows to speed drying time. It can take a few days for carpet to dry completely.

Maybe shampooing won’t solve your carpet problem and it’s time to replace your carpet in a few rooms. We’d love to help. Stop by one of our showrooms in Okemos or West Lansing to find your next carpet.
